Earth Day Celebration at the Greenburgh Nature Center

Spring has finally sprung! The sun is shining the birds are singing and all I want to do is be outside. This time of year is way more exciting for me than New Years. I feel more energetic, optimistic and motivated to do great things in times like these than I ever do in the cold depressing winter months. I’m in an “ I want to change the world” kind of mood. So, imagine my excitement when I found out about the Earth Day Celebration at the Greenburgh Nature Center.

First of all, I have to say that, my family and I love the Greenburgh Nature Center for their beautiful nature trails, discovery playground and their wildlife habitat refuge. They are located on 33 acres of land and every acre offers a unique opportunity to deepen our appreciation for nature and the living creatures in our environment. Children who visit the center are given a chance to get up close and personal with several species of wildlife. They can actually touch the animals as they learn about them from the nature center volunteers (who are often children themselves). What a unique educational experience, for children to be given the chance to learn from their older peers. The center also offers a number of workshops throughout the year, for children and adults, which focus on topics such as, environmental education and teaching people how to live more sustainably. When you visit the center, you honestly feel that you are in the presence of people who genuinely care about the environment and are committed to making the world a better place. Did I mention that I love this place?!

Mark your calendars. On Sunday April 19th, 2015 from 11:00-4:00pm the center will be providing classes to teach people about home composting, using rain barrels and the benefits of raised gardens. Which is one of the reasons that I am so excited to go to this event. I would like to start a compost and vegetable garden in my backyard this year, but being the type A personality that I am, I can’t get started until I know every little detail is done right. I know that at the Greenburgh nature center I will get practical, and accurate information that will help make my dream garden a reality. The celebration will also include music and cooking demonstrations, as well as, activities and crafts for the kids. They will even be planting a tree in the children’s playground. I can’t wait! With such a wonderful event planned, I only hope that the weather will be as beautiful as it is today.

I hope to see you there!
