Ghee Healing Salve Recipe

This winter has been utterly brutal on my dry skin. My hands suffer the most. Not only does my skin get dry but it also cracks and becomes sore. The only cream that I have found to give me some temporary relief is full of chemicals and carcinogens, so in an effort to use more natural products on my skin I have decided to make my own moisturizer.

I have read many blogs that say coconut oil on it own is a great moisturizer, but that hasn't been my experience. When I tried it, I felt like the coconut oil formed a greasy layer on my skin but did not penetrate below the surface of the skin. Although my hands appeared to be moisturized after applying the coconut oil, I still felt the sensation of cracked and dry skin. So, I did some research and found out that Ghee could be used as a moisturizer and because of its nature, as a pure fat, it penetrates deep within the skin.

I was feeling creative, so I took out my essential oils, coconut oil, ghee and a mixer and I got to work. Wow, am I glad that I did. My hands went from this sad picture on the left, to the smooth skin that you see on the right, in just one week of applying my concoction.

I was so happy that the dark patches of hard skin around my knuckles started to fade. The deep cracks in my hands started to fade as well. I am over the moon that I found a natural product that works so well and is so easy to make.

So here is my secret recipe:

1/2 cup ghee

1/2 cup coconut oil

1/2 cup chamomile tea

1 tbsp glycerin

15 drops lavender essential oil

15 drops peppermint oil

5 drops tea tree oil

5 drops chamomile essential oil

Directions:

Prepare a cup of chamomile tea in a cup of distilled water. (I used one tea bag of organic chamomile tea, steeped in 1/2 cup of water.)

Combine the ghee, coconut oil and chamomile tea in large mixing bowl.

Whip the mixture on a medium setting, while continuously

folding the

tea is well incorporated into the mixture, so that there is no

visible liquid left (about 2-3 minutes)

Add the glycerin and essential oils to the mixture, and blend until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Bottle your moisturizer and enjoy!
